How the concept of ‘The dip’ can change our attitude

We all will experience a decline in our professional life

The concept of “The Dip” is an incredible idea that can be applied to various areas of life, including business, employment, self-improvement, or hobbies. I came across this remarkable concept in a short but highly useful book titled The Dip by American author Seth Godin. The title itself caught my attention immediately.

In this context, “The Dip” refers to a valley, a decline, or a downward slope. For practical purposes, we can think of it as the “Valley of Despair.”

The central idea of the book is that everyone experiences this Valley of Despair (The Dip) in their professional, educational, or personal lives. Whenever we take on something significant, meaningful, or important, we enjoy it for a while. We see expected results and desirable effects. However, after some time, the upward graph of our success starts to decline. The very task we began with enthusiasm, passion, and dedication suddenly stopped yielding results. Despite our continued efforts, input, and hard work, the effects that were visible at the beginning gradually fades away. We don’t achieve the desired outcomes, nor do we see the expected results.
