True! All we need to do is to stop being harsh with ourselves. The blame game, Ifs, and buts, What if, assumptions, etc. are going to make the situation worse. The only thing that can help is mindfulness and observation without judgment. The good thing about the past is that it is already dead. It is up to us, that how long we want to keep it alive in our heads?
